The free workshop is a hands-on small business funding and credit readiness workshop designed to help entrepreneurs better understand funding opportunities and prepare for business growth. It will be held Thursday, October 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rowan Public Library Headquarters, located at 201 West Fisher Street, Salisbury, NC 28144.
“Access to capital can be one of the biggest hurdles for a new or growing small business,” explained Megan Johnson, the Director of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College’s Small Business Center. “But finding a lender is only part of the equation. Business owners also need to understand how their credit affects their options and what lenders are looking for when they evaluate a funding request.”
This four-hour, in-person workshop is designed for aspiring and developing small business owners who want to learn how to identify and prepare for financing opportunities that can support business growth, strengthen operations, and open doors to new opportunities.
The workshop will be led by Roxanne Reed, who has extensive experience as an entrepreneur and helping clients improve credit readiness and gain access to capital. Reed has also worked statewide with the Small Business Center Network on several programs and brings a very practical approach to helping business owners become loan-ready.
During the workshop, participants will explore:
- How personal credit can affect business lending and financing opportunities
- How to start, build, and strengthen business credit
- Non-traditional and alternative sources of capital
- What lenders look for when evaluating early-stage and growing businesses
- Strategies for improving creditworthiness when approaching lenders
- Practical tools and resources to help entrepreneurs prepare for credit-based funding
The workshop goes beyond general information by providing participants with practical, actionable steps they can use when preparing to meet with lenders and other financial professionals.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have:
- A clear understanding of how personal and business credit affect funding options
- Actionable strategies to improve personal credit for lending purposes
- Insider guidance directly from banking professionals
- A checklist of documents, credit benchmarks, and steps needed to prepare for funding applications
- Connections to experts who can support ongoing business credit development
RPL is excited to host Rowan Cabarrus Community College’s Small Business Center for this workshop. Brooke Taylor, RPL Branch Operations Manager, is one of the librarians who recently participated in NC IDEA’s Libraries for Entrepreneurial Advancement Fellowship (LEAF) program. LEAF is designed to equip and empower public and institutional librarians as they support small business owners through education and access to local resources.
“There is a lot of help out there for our North Carolina small businesses, and the public library is a great first place to start the journey to success,” explained Taylor. “Programs like this one are valuable to entrepreneurs in understanding how best to assess the financial options that are available to them, and how to build their business credit.”
