McRae Applauds Trump Administration on New Trump Account Auto Enrollment

JACKSON, Miss. – Treasurer David McRae today applauded President Trump and the U.S. Treasury Department for approving a new rule that will automatically enroll children in the Trump Account program. The change could give more than 60 million children access to the investment accounts.

“Mississippi has already seen what can happen when families start saving early. Through our Mississippi College and Career Savings programs, we’ve given parents and grandparents practical tools to invest in a child’s education and future,” said McRae. “Trump Accounts add onto that same idea by building a financial foundation for millions of children from an early age. I applaud President Trump and the U.S. Treasury for making these accounts easier to access and ensuring more children get a jumpstart on the American Dream.”

Prior to this rule, families had to complete IRS Form 4547 to enroll their child in a Trump account. With the change, enrollment is automatic and seamless. Children born between 2025 and 2028 will receive a $1,000 seed contribution. Qualifying children under age 10 can receive up to $250 through contributions from private donors.

Mississippi also offers tax-advantaged college savings accounts. The MPACT program allows families to lock in today’s tuition rates and prepay college, while the MACS program establishes a savings account that can be used for a variety of educational expenses.
