Henry County lawmakers: Local students encouraged to apply for House internship
STATEHOUSE (Sept. 28, 2026) – Henry County legislators are encouraging local students to apply for the Indiana House Republican Internship Program for the 2027 legislative session.
State Rep. Brad Barrett (R-Richmond) said this paid, full-time internship is open to college students, recent graduates and students in law or graduate school from January through April.
"Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to watch many young people begin their careers at the Statehouse," Barrett said. "It’s encouraging to see students come in ready to learn and leave with a better understanding of the kind of work they want to pursue."
State Rep. Cory Criswell (R-Middletown) said interns work in the Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis full-time Monday through Friday during the legislative session and gain practical knowledge of state government through active participation in the legislative process.
"Internships are the beginning of a much bigger professional journey," Criswell said. "I hope students who come to the Statehouse take advantage of the people they meet and the experiences they have as they consider what comes next."
Positions are available in legislative operations, policy and communications.
State Rep. J.D. Prescott (R-Union City) said this spring semester internship gives interested students opportunities to interact with state legislators, state agencies and private sector organizations, as well as participate in a weekly speaker series featuring Indiana civic leaders.
"Early career experiences can help students understand what they enjoy and where they want to take their career," Prescott said. "This internship gives them a chance to explore their options, experience state government and develop skills that can carry into their next opportunity."
Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
