Great Basin College Celebrates 30 Years...

Great Basin College celebrated 30 years in Ely on Saturday, recognizing three decades of education, community partnerships and service to students throughout White Pine County.

The anniversary brought together current and former faculty and staff, students, alumni, community members and supporters to recognize the people and partnerships that have shaped GBC Ely since its founding.

Over the past 30 years, GBC's presence in Ely has grown through the continued support of the community. Local organizations, businesses, donors, volunteers and community partners have contributed time, resources and expertise to help expand educational opportunities and support generations of students.

That support has had an impact far beyond the college itself. Students have gained access to education and career training closer to home, graduates have carried their skills into local workplaces and communities, and partnerships throughout the region have helped GBC respond to the changing educational and workforce needs of rural Nevada.

The anniversary also provided an opportunity to recognize the many people who have contributed to GBC Ely throughout its history. Some remain closely involved with the college today, while others helped establish programs, partnerships and traditions that continue to influence the center decades later.

GBC extends its sincere thanks to everyone who has supported the Ely Center during its first 30 years, whether by teaching and serving students, volunteering, donating, building community partnerships or advocating for access to higher education in the region. The strength of GBC Ely has always depended on the people and community it serves.

The college also recognizes Ely Center Director Shemayne Pitts, Ely faculty and staff, GBC Foundation Director Leslie Maple, Development Specialist Sadelle Crabb, and the GBC Foundation, IT and Communications teams for their work in planning and supporting the 30th anniversary celebration.

Thirty years is an important milestone, but it also represents thousands of individual experiences, opportunities and contributions. As GBC Ely enters its next chapter, the college remains committed to serving White Pine County and working alongside the community to create educational opportunities for the generations to come.
